Tour Van – Around the island by Van
With this tour we intend to show a little bit of history, culture, landscape and gastronomy of our people, starting with the São Jorge cheese that holds a Protected Designation of Origin, produced exclusively from raw cow milk and with its strong and slightly spicy flavor, which is accentuated with the maturation time; or the Canada Cheese, where the traditional way of making cheese that is made only with milk from the owner's cows is still maintained, a cheese that goes back to the origins; Viewpoints with breathtaking views to the neighboring islands, slopes of high cliffs and breathtaking cliffs and the enchanting Lagoons; Monuments shaken by the relentless volcanoes of the early nineteenth century; Handicrafts, where the traditions of creating pieces in wool, linen or cotton are maintained in the creaking of the old wooden looms, such as clothes from bygone times, quilts with geometric motifs with garish or natural colors, napperons, embroidery among other handmade arts; Arabic coffee planted and cultivated in the Fajãs against the nature of its survival at a meager meters from sea level unlike the rest of the world that is produced at altitude and even by coffee experts, as unique in Europe, and perhaps the only one in the Northern Hemisphere of our planet, where you can visit the coffee plantations and its process until it reaches the cup with an intense and fruity flavor to taste and ask for more; and a Forest Reserve of great beauty and natural diversity, home to various species of fauna and flora.• Comfortable clothing and shoes*
