Pico do Pedro/Pico da Esperança/Fajã do Ouvidor
The trail Pico da Esperança / Fajã Do Ouvidor is one of the longest of the short trails and has its start at Pico do Pedro passing through Pico da Esperança, with an altitude of 1053 meters, and is located in the geologically youngest part of the island. This route is over dirt tracks and ends at the beautiful fajã do Ouvidor. The points of interest of this trail are based on the beautiful landscape of the entire central mountain range of the island with some lakes in their craters and where, in good weather days, it is possible to see the islands of Graciosa, Terceira, Pico and Faial. This route goes through the parish of Norte Grande and its belvedere overlooking Fajã do Ouvidor and Fajã da Ribeira D'Areia - one of the few existing lava fajãs on the north coast of São Jorge island. After a short stop at the viewpoint, we descend to the Fajã where it is possible to swim - if the sea conditions allow it - in the famous Poça de Simão Dias, a natural pool, carved in black basalt and with its prismatic disjunctions in its dipping cliffs.
